Club of Month: Female Focused

Joining a club is a great way to meet new people and talk about topics you are passionate about. There are plenty of clubs to choose from at Berkley High School, so chances are that you haven’t heard of them all. The Female Focused Club is one of the new clubs that you might not be familiar with. The mission of “Female Focused is to empower women to help other women and bring awareness to female issues,” Says the teacher sponsor Mrs. Blackwell. Let’s hear more from her about this club and how it started.
In regards to how the club started Mrs. Blackwell goes on to say, “Isabella Gentry approached me about starting a club that focused on women’s issues in the fall of 2022. Isabella got it approved by the administration and got things going.” Mrs. Blackwell goes on to say, “There are around 20 members, mostly female students ranging from all grades.” She explains that, “The club meets every other week. At each meeting, we discuss either an issue or plan an activity to either support or promote women’s issues. We often hold bake sales and other fundraisers to raise money for female-centered charities, such as Haven and Crossroads for Women.”
By getting involved with Female Focused, you can learn more about women’s issues and help in funding charities. Now that we know a little more about this club, let’s dive in deeper, “This club has benefited members by educating members on female issues and how to help others. Last spring we donated $800 worth of items to Haven to help women who have been impacted by domestic violence. This club contributes to the local community by donations to female-centered organizations & spreading knowledge.” Now that you have heard about this club you may be wondering how students can get involved. Mrs. Blackwell once again answers, “Anyone is welcome at any meeting, we meet every other week at lunch in room 270. Our next meeting is March 5th. We’d love to have new members, come and check us out!” You heard Mrs. Blackwell, this club is a great opportunity to help bring awareness to women’s issues and help support charities!
Next I talked to Rayna Kushner and asked her memorable experiences and how this club has benefited her this is what she said, “last year when we did the item drive for haven it was great
to see the community contributing and because of how everyone came together it was very meaningful. And I think it is a good way to meet younger people in our school that care about the same issues I do”
Overall, this club is an excellent way to learn more about women’s issues and provides a chance to raise awareness and provide support.
