Battle of the Baes is a series that I started my freshman year and have continued annually since then. Eager to hear more about the couples of Berkley High, I have interviewed countless lovebirds through the ages. So, as my high school career is coming to a close, I felt it was only fitting to do so once more. I now present: BATTLE OF THE BAES PT. 4!
Our first couple are senior Carson Morley and junior Lola Burns. Will these companions have a strong spark?
How long have you been dating?
Lola: 11 months.
What’s your favorite thing about your partner?
Lola: He’s funny.
Carson: Your eyes.
Lola: That was nice!
What’s a piece of advice for having a long-lasting relationship?
Lola: Communication.
Carson: Communication.
What is a pet peeve that you have of your partner?
Lola: He always wants to go thrifting every single day.
Carson: None. I like everything about her.
Lola: Aww.

Who is the first and second person on your partner’s Snapchat best friends list?
Lola: We are each other’s. Is your second August?
Carson: Yeah. And your second is Leif.
Lola: Yes.
What is your partner’s dream job?
Carson: I don’t know what it’s called.
Lola: I’m thinking.
Carson: Yours is like fashion marketing.
Lola: Yes, PR. His is fashion design.
Carson: Yeah.
Tell me about your first date.
Lola: We went to Kruse and Meir, and he had a barbeque pepperoni pizza, and I had shrimp tempura tacos.
Carson: On our first date, I thought she was pretty.
What are your Valentine’s Day plans?
Carson: Get her gifts and make vodka pasta at home with her.
Lola: We are cooking dinner and having dessert.
How sweet! The following couple are sophomores Henry Samson and Addyson Skipton. Let’s get into it!
How long have you been dating?
Addyson: Three months.
What’s your favorite thing about your partner?
Addyson: He is super caring, and he always knows what to say when I need to hear something nice.
Henry: She’s very supportive of what I’m interested in. Like, whenever I talk about football, she doesn’t brush off what I say; she is actually interested and cares.
What’s a piece of advice for having a long-lasting relationship?
Henry: Communication.
Addyson: Yeah, that’s what I was gonna say.
What is a pet peeve that you have of your partner?
Addyson: He doesn’t have a lot of urgency. Like when we have to get places, he moves slowly.
Henry: Yeah, like bad timing.
Addyson: No, not necessarily bad timing, just slow-moving.
Henry: Yes, we are always late. It sounds corny, but my pet peeve is when she doesn’t recognize how smart she is. Like she’s like, “I’m gonna do so bad on this test,” and then she gets a 99 percent.
Who is the first and second person on your partner’s Snapchat best friends list?
Addyson: His first is me, right?
Henry: Yeah.
Addyson: And his second is probably Ira.
Henry: Ira? No.
Addyson: Well, it was a guess. Who is it?
Henry: Ian. I hope your first is me, and then number two is either Julia, Cami, or Lily? Ellory or Julia? I’m gonna say Ellory.
Addyson: I don’t have my phone, so I don’t actually know… I think it’s Julia, though.

What is your partner’s dream job?
Henry: It’s a certain kind of doctor.
Addyson: Yours is an architectural engineer?Henry: Yeah! Ugh, I should know yours! It starts with a “P,” right? It’s a kind of doctor. What’s the second letter?
Addyson: “E.”
Henry: Oh my god, I can’t remember! It’s a doctor.
Addyson: It is a pediatric nurse!
Tell me about your first date.
Henry: It was at Monarch Café. It was very awkward. There were maybe like four words exchanged.
Addyson: That’s not true! Well, it was awkward. We talked and got to know each other.
Henry: It was very much a first date.
What are your Valentine’s Day plans?
Addyson: We have not decided yet.
What a great couple! And last but not least, freshmen Asa Sommers and Avery Stears share what it’s like to be a young couple.
How long have you been dating?
Asa: Like, we were talking for a while but have been dating for like a week.

What’s your favorite thing about your partner?
Avery: His eyes.
Asa: Probably watching shows together. And I like her eyes.
What’s a piece of advice for having a long-lasting relationship?
Avery: Communication.
Asa: Yeah, I would say the same thing.
What is a pet peeve that you have of your partner?
Avery: His loud chewing.
Asa: I don’t know. Maybe how she always loses the remote while we are watching shows.
Who is the first and second person on your partner’s Snapchat best friends list?
Asa: We are each other’s first. I think Georgia is her second.
Avery: Yes, Georgia’s my second. Is yours Ryan?
Asa: It’s either Ryan or Liv. I don’t know.
What is your partner’s dream job?
Asa: I don’t know.
Avery: No idea.
Tell me about your first date.
Asa: What would we classify as a date? I don’t think we’ve had a date. We just kind of hung out.
What are your Valentine’s Day plans?
Asa: We’re probably just going to hang out. At her house, not mine.
Truly adorable. Well, that’s all, folks! After long, difficult hours of reviewing the interviews, the best bae has been chosen. The 2025 winner of the annual Battle of the Baes is… ALL OF THEM! All of these couples are great in their own special and unique ways. This February, all love should be celebrated. In a relationship or not, I hope that everyone has a wonderful Valentine’s Day.
