Whether it’s hidden water balloons or extreme prank calls, April Fools’ Day brings out the prankster in everyone. There are so many different ways to celebrate this fun-filled day, so I interviewed four Berkley students about how they celebrated in previous years and what they planned for this year.
First, I interviewed sophomore Lexi Gross about her April Fools’ Day traditions. She shared with me, “My whole family goes all out every year.” When asked what she did last year to celebrate, she explained, “I filled Oreos with toothpaste, made glitter bombs, and I replaced all of our bags of chips with popcorn, which my family hates.” Regarding her plans for this year, Gross revealed, “I have water balloons hidden all over the house, and I’ll throw them at my family when they least expect it.” Finally, when asked what her all-time favorite prank was, Gross enthusiastically shared, “One year my siblings and I dyed my dog’s fur green and pretended like it was permanent. It was so funny to watch my parents’ reaction because they were so stressed and didn’t know what to do.”
Second, I interviewed senior Gabe Vieder about his April Fools’ Day pranks in previous years and what he planned this year. He shared, “My parents don’t pull pranks on us, but my siblings and I pull pranks on them.” When asked what he did last year to celebrate, he explained, “I filled my parent’s bathtub up with water balloons that were filled with red water.” Regarding his plans for this year, Vieder revealed, “I’m going to mess with my parents and pretend like my dog killed a squirrel and brought it into the house.” Finally, when asked what his all-time favorite prank was, Vieder enthusiastically shared, “One year, I covered my brother’s room with old embarrassing photos of himself. It was so funny because he got so mad at me.”
Next, I interviewed senior Ethan Frank about his April Fools’ Day traditions. He shared that “most of [his] family goes all out.” When asked what he did last year to celebrate, he explained, “I put paper towels in all of the shoes, taped the faucets, and I put saran wrap all over the house and over my dad’s computer.” Regarding his plans for this year, Frank revealed, “I’m going to freeze my dad’s breakfast that he prepares for himself overnight. I’m also going to hide all of his left shoes.” Finally, when asked what his all-time favorite prank was, Frank enthusiastically shared, “One year, I put temporary hair dye in my mom’s shampoo and conditioner, and it turned her hair purple. Her reaction was priceless!”
Lastly, I interviewed senior Gretchen Stief about her April Fools’ Day pranks planned for this year and what she did in previous years. She shared with me, “My whole family pulls pranks every year, but my mom goes all out.” When asked what she did last year to celebrate, Stief explained, “I put super glue on the bottom of a chair so when my mom sat down, her butt was glued to the seat.” Regarding her plans for this year, Stief revealed, “I‘m going to pretend like my sister got arrested and needs to be bailed out of jail.” Finally, when asked what her all-time favorite prank was, Stief enthusiastically shared, “One year, my sister and I pranked my brother that we had school even though it was a Sunday, and we made him get all ready for school in the morning.”
