Trends are everywhere: they shape our fashion choices, what our social media feeds are, and even what we talk about. Fall brings out trends for everything from fashion to food. The idea behind trends is not just about promoting the actual product, but promoting a lifestyle that aligns with the product. Now, as fall fashion starts to become popular, many brands start to promote their clothing around the idea of fall. We have already seen certain fashion ideals become popular again, like sustainable fashion, fun colors, and nostalgic clothes. I think that the way brands incorporate trends will become quite the hot topic.
Behind the fashion scene, there are so many ways trends gain popularity. Many companies utilize influencers, brand collaborations, and media. The media exposure plays a very significant role in what becomes popular vs what doesn’t. It’s all about marketing to the media. Companies like the Parke, a brand run by Chelsea Parke, which not only promotes her clothing, but the clothing is centered around her brand. It’s about the lifestyle it promotes; people want to be like her, so they buy her clothes. This same strategy is used every season, especially in the fall, when brands don’t market individual pieces; they market the entire aesthetic of fall. When 1 brand introduces a color or silhouette as part of the fall aesthetic, others quickly follow. This creates a cycle to drive up demand. This explains why certain styles feel ubiquitous and why fall fashion predictions focus more on identifying emerging marketing strategies than actual forecasting.
This season, the trends I believe are going to be popular are polka dots, darker colors like deep greens and maroons, and coats made from leather or fur. This season, the trends I believe are going to be popular are polka dots, darker colors like deep greens and maroons, and coats made from leather or fur. Keeping up with the low-profile, I predict sleek running shoes like Adidas, hats, big chunky jewelry, and large slouchy bags. I think a lot of these trends are cute and things I genuinely wear and like. But I want to be original and have a different style, so the more popular these items become, the less exciting they will be to wear. All of these trends have a lot of potential. I’m excited to see the differentiations of shoes. I know that Adidas will continue to be very popular, but some shoes that are similar and just as cute that I hope to see become more well-known are the Onitsuka Tigers and the Puma Speedsters. These shoes have a similar shoe shape but slightly different designs.
Now, regarding colors, dark colors typically become more popular as it gets into the colder months of fall. I’m ready to see how people work to style certain colors together, like a deep maroon with dark green. I think this season, the funkier and more fun colors you can incorporate into what you’re wearing, the better. I also hope to see some of the patterns with these colors incorporated into the fabric.
For accessories for fall, I think we will see lots of large jewelry with funky and chunky designs, the bigger the better. Many people will start to stack their jewelry from thick bangles on wrists to multiple necklaces. I want to see more people wearing watches because they’re cute and practical. While hats and scarves will become more popular for comfort and style. I personally love the bakerboy hats with the right outfit, I think these hats can perfectly complement a fall fit. I believe we will also see lots of slouchy big bags that can carry a lot around comfortably while still elevating an outfit. I love the big brown bags that hold a lot of items, and are very versatile for many different occasions.
As a whole, the trends for this upcoming fall will be the more out-there, the better, with dark colors, big accessories, and fun patterns. Which makes being original that much more on trend and exciting, allowing you to be true to what you want. Overall trends can be a great way of expression, and there are so many interesting ways trends become popular. The excitement of celebrities and influencers wearing what you’re wearing is such a great way to find your style through the inspiration of others. Watching people work through trends to see what they’re actually going to like will be great this fall, with the trends being more fun and less neutral this year than they have in the past. This is the opportunity to experiment with clothing outside of your comfort zone, whether it’s a trend or not.
