As the NHL season begins, Red Wings fans prepare to celebrate the team’s centennial year. With it being the 100th year, the Red Wings organization will introduce many new features, including a new jersey, a re-design of the center ice logo, special fan experiences, a jersey retirement for Sergei Fedorov, and even more events around the city. All around Detroit for the past century, “Hockeytown” has been a staple of the city’s toughness, grit, and pride. For the past 100 years, the heart of the city has grown around the red and white and the roar of the crowd. Dynasties have been built, championships won, and with that, the 313 has only grown stronger. This year, the Wings look to celebrate every one of these 100 years through the fans and the city.

Centennial Jersey
Probably the most notable feature for the 2025-2026 season, the Wings recently introduced a new special edition centennial jersey. This jersey will include many features referencing past championships and team names. The iconic Winged Wheel logo will be featured prominently. Its design will throw back to the original 1932-1948 version, when the Winged Wheel was first introduced and used. From this point on, it has been a symbol of Detroit and is believed by many to be one of the most iconic logos in all of sports.
Another subtle feature of the jersey includes the white stripes on the bottom of the jersey, referencing when the Wings were the Detroit Falcons from 1930 to1932. These stripes give a vintage vibe from the old Falcons jerseys to incorporate into the centennial jersey. A second throwback logo included on the jersey is the “Cougar D” located on the brown patch on the bottom of the jersey. The patch will also be included on the front leg of the red pants. This logo brings inspiration from the Cougars’ “barber pole” uniforms from the 1927-28 season.
Finally, along with the new matte red helmet to complement these uniforms, the helmets will include a vintage Meijer logo from 1957-1966. Debuting for the season opener, these beautiful centennial jerseys will be worn for over a dozen home games through the regular season.
Hockeytown Centennial FanFest
The Red Wings organization is celebrating 100 years with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. They’re not only creating new jerseys and logos but also offering an exclusive event directed at the fans. The Centennial FanFest is a four-day exclusive event happening at the Motor City Casino Hotel, celebrating 100 years of the Red Wings. From Nov 6-9, fans will be able to experience alumni interactions, historic artifacts, autograph sessions, special merchandise, guest appearances, and plenty more. For the Red Wings organization, this is a truly unique and special way to commemorate the franchise’s history and culture, making it a perfect opportunity for fans to celebrate 100 years.

Center Ice Logo Redesign
Another huge change is coming for the 100th season. The Red Wings will be updating their center ice logo to feature the centennial design covered by the iconic “Hockeytown” text. Prior to the season starting, the Red Wings organization gave the choice to the fans on what to vote for the center ice logo. The options were either the centennial logo or the centennial logo with Hockeytown included. Unsurprisingly, fans overwhelmingly voted for the Hockeytown design. The Hockeytown logo was first introduced in 1997 as a marketing campaign for the 70th anniversary. Since then, it remained an iconic staple of the Red Wings franchise and success up until 2017. Once the Wings made their move from Joe Louis Arena to Little Caesars Arena for the 2017-2018 season, the iconic Hockeytown logo was only used for one season until being removed indefinitely. Since then, the iconic logo has been missed dearly by the community. As just one of the initiatives to honor 100 years, the Red Wings will have this logo at center ice for the entirety of the 2025-2026 season.
Sergei Fedorov Jersey Retirement
This past August, the Red Wings Organization made a significant announcement. As part of their 100th season celebrations, they will commemorate Red Wings legend Sergei Fedorov by retiring his number. This ceremony will happen on Jan 12, 2026, at Little Caesars Arena prior to the Red Wings vs the Carolina Hurricanes game. Why this is so special is that Sergei Federov was known to be one of the most skilled and talented players of his time, and he played a big role in contributing to the three Stanley Cups won by the Red Wings in 1997, 1998, and 2002. The Red Wings franchise is no stranger to generational talents, as they have retired eight numbers prior to Fedorov. During this 100th year, the Red Wings will commemorate Fedorov’s #91 by hanging it in the rafters with all the other Red Wings legends.
Endless things can be said about the Red Wings and their historic 100 years, the 11 Stanley Cup wins, the iconic Winged Wheel jerseys, and the list goes on. As one of the most prominent and cultured sports teams in U.S history, there is no better way to celebrate the 100th year than what the Red Wings organization is offering for their fans and community.
