With the start of the new year, many new movies for 2026 have already been announced. Here are 12 of the most interesting, entertaining, and diverse films that you can look forward to in 2026!
Wuthering Heights – February 13
A highly anticipated romance movie based on a classic novel, the 1847 tragedy written by Emily Brontë is going to be released in theatres on Feb. 13. This story follows the wealthy family, the Earnshaws, as they foster their son named Heathcliff, played by Jacob Elordi, who quickly becomes mistreated by the family. The daughter, Catherine Earnshaw, played by Margot Robbie, is forced to marry for status and wealth, even though unhappy. Eventually, Catherine and Heathcliff have a destructive and dramatic relationship that leads to suffering and many hardships. If you are a fan of intense and tragic love stories, period dramas, literature, and exploring themes of revenge and class, this is the film for you!
Project Hail Mary – March 20
Continuing the theme of highly anticipated book-to-film adaptations, Project Hail Mary, based on the novel by Andy Weir, is set to release on March 20. This sci-fi thriller follows Ryland Grace, played by Ryan Gosling, a middle school teacher who wakes up alone on a spaceship with no memory of who he is or why he’s there. As his memory slowly returns, Ryland realizes he is humanity’s last hope on a mission to save Earth from a catastrophic extinction event. If you enjoy suspenseful space adventures, clever science, emotional storytelling, and non-dystopian science fiction, this is definitely a movie to put on your watchlist.
The Drama – April 3
Labeled as a romantic comedy drama film, The Drama follows the engaged couple of Emma Harwood, a bookstore clerk played by Zendaya, and Charlie Thompson, a museum director played by Robert Pattinson, and their unexpected turbulence the week of their wedding. Since this is an original film, there is not much released on the plot of the movie, but from the trailer, it seems as though the couple is taken aback as one partner discovers unsettling truths about the other. This movie seems to be one with many twists and turns, so make sure to go watch it to uncover all the secrets behind the couple!
The Devil Wears Prada 2- May 1
The long-awaited sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, is officially set to release. The sequel is expected to revisit iconic characters like the ruthless editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, alongside Anne Hathaway’s character Andy Sachs and sharp-tongued Emily Charlton played by Emily Blunt. Not much has been released about the plot, but we do know that the story follows Miranda as she faces off against Emily, her former assistant and current rival executive. Miranda and Emily compete for advertising revenue in a struggling print media industry as Miranda approaches retirement. Fans of the original should definitely keep this on their radar.
Toy Story 5 – June 19
The classic animated family Disney series is coming out with another sequel, Toy Story 5! In this movie, the original beloved toys have a new competition as Bonnie becomes an avid technology user. The film introduces a new character, Lily Pad, and centers around the toys’ struggle to stay relevant and their fear of the new device. This film explores the theme of the switch from physical toys to electronic devices in kids, something very relevant in today’s world. If you have seen the other Toy Story movies, make sure to go watch this one as well!
Moana – July 10
Following the trend of recent years, another live-action Disney Princess movie is set to release in 2026! Starring Catherine Laga’aia as Moana and the original voice actor Dwayne Johnson as Maui, the film will follow the original story of the duo trying to return the stolen Heart of Te Fiti in order to restore Moana’s dying island. This movie follows an epic and comical voyage, and with themes of self-discovery, it is the perfect movie to go see with your family!
Spider-Man- Brand New Day – July 31
The film stars Tom Holland swinging back as Spider-Man, following the events that left Peter Parker starting fresh with his identity erased from the world’s memory. While not much of the plot has been revealed, we know that the story is expected to explore Peter navigating life on his own, balancing college, responsibility, and his role as Spider-Man without the support system he had before. If you’re a fan of character-driven superhero movies, this is one Marvel movie to keep an eye on.
The Odyssey – July 17
Here at BHS, all students during their freshman year in English nine read this classic tale, and now it is becoming a movie! With a cast of multiple A-list actors, including Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, and most centrally Matt Damon as Odysseus, the film follows Odysseus’ decade-long journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. Created by the ancient Greek poet Homer, the plot is filled with mystical creatures, gods, and goddesses, tribulations, battles, and adventure, all while Odysseus’ wife, played by Anne Hathaway and son, played by Tom Holland, are at home awaiting his return. This Christopher Nolan film is expected to appeal to lovers of large-scale action and adventure movies, but also those who enjoy Greek mythology.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping – November 20
The beloved Suzanne Collins’ story of the Hunger Games is releasing another prequel to the original series after the book form was released in March of 2025. This story follows Haymitch Abernathy, who was Katniss and Peeta’s mentor in the original trilogy, and his experience in the brutal 50th Hunger Games, where twice the usual tributes fought to the death. Haymitch is being played by Joseph Zada, McKenna Grace is playing Maysilee Donner, the other tribute from District 12, and Maya Hawke is playing Wiress, who is the mentor to both of the tributes. The classic dystopian fiction film is rumored to have Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson playing their original roles of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in flash-forward scenes. This film is set to explore themes of propaganda, survival, and corruption, while giving a backstory to Haymitch’s cynical nature and addiction issues, so if you are a lover of the Hunger Games series or a fan of the dystopian genre, make sure to watch this movie!
Jumanji 3 – December 11
Another blockbuster sequel, Jumanji Three is set to bring viewers back into the unpredictable world of the game. This film will reunite fan favorite characters portrayed by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillian. While plot details remain mostly under wraps, the sequel is expected to raise the stakes even higher as the characters are pulled into the game again, facing new challenges, settings, and dangers that test their teamwork. If you enjoy action-packed adventures mixed with comedy, this thriller is definitely one to watch.
Dune: Part Three – December 18
Dune: Part Three is set to conclude Paul Atreides’ story on the big screen. The film will once again follow Paul, played by Timothée Chalamet, as he faces the consequences of his rise to power after the events of Dune: Part Two. While not much has been released about the plot, the movie is expected to be based on Dune Messiah, the second book in the Dune series, which explores the cost of leadership, prophecy, and the cult of personality around Paul that he has set in motion. If you’re a big fan of sci-fi storytelling, this will be a great watch.
Avengers: Doomsday – December 18
Continuing Marvel’s next major chapter, Avengers: Doomsday, will bring one of the largest team-ups in Marvel history. The film will bring together The Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and X-Men as they take on the powerful villain Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., who holds immense power. As heroes emerge to stop Doom, who may be manipulating events behind the scenes, the story is rumored to introduce a “battlesworld” and set the stage for the Avengers: Secret Wars. If you’re a fan of crossover movies and high-stakes action, this movie is shaping up to be a must-watch.
