The new local burger spot has opened right across from our school. It is called Buns and Patties, and it is open until 3 am. It was founded by three lifelong friends with deep roots in hospitality whose goal was to create a modern neighborhood joint that’s open late. Buns and Patties had a soft opening on May 8th and then opened for good a week later on May 15th.
Ever since the doors first opened, Buns and Patties have been packed. Especially at night, you drive by and see the restaurant filled with lots of people. So I wanted to know if it was worth the hype. I ordered multiple menu items to determine three things: how does the food taste on a scale from 1-10, is it worth it for the price, and the wait time for the food?
In order to figure these things out, I tried multiple different food items. These were the smashburger, the crispy chicken sandwich, the egg sandwich, the short rib grilled cheese, the fries, the sweet potato fries, and finally the hot fudge classic sundae.

Smashburger
The smashburger includes 2 patties, American cheese, pickles, onion, and a secret sauce all on a potato bun. It costs $11 and is Buns and Patties’ staple. I loved the burger. When I took my first bite, I could definitely tell that it was a really good quality burger. It had many different flavors going on, and it all went together very well, making it delicious. The secret sauce on it is very good as well. The price is a little high, but you can tell the freshness and quality of the burger is top-notch. Overall, I would rate this burger a 9.3 out of 10.
Chicken sandwich
The chicken sandwich includes a fried chicken patty, slaw, pickles, sauce, and is served on a potato bun. This sandwich is really good, with the crunchiness of the chicken patty and the delicious sauce that it is topped with. I enjoyed everything about this sandwich. Overall, I would rate this sandwich a 9.1 out of 10.
Egg sandwich
The egg sandwich includes an egg patty, bacon, cheddar cheese, tomato, basil sriracha aioli, and is served on an English muffin. This sandwich is a great addition to the menu because even though an egg sandwich is known as a breakfast item, many people will enjoy it throughout the day. I really enjoyed it, although I would not rate it as high as the chicken sandwich or the burger because it wasn’t very filling. I would rate this sandwich an 8.5 out of 10.
Short rib grilled cheese
The grilled cheese has short rib, pickled onion, arugula, and giardiniera on sourdough bread, served with a side of tomato soup. This sandwich is really good. Taking a classic grilled cheese sandwich and adding short rib to it is a great addition. Dipping the sandwich in the tomato soup makes it even better as well. I would rate this sandwich and soup an 8.8 out of 10.
Regular fries
The fries are topped with a sweet and salty house seasoning. These are definitely some of the best fries I have ever had because the sweet and salty taste of the seasoning is delicious. I would rate these fries a 9.2 out of 10.
Sweet potato fries
The sweet potato fries are tossed in a sweet and salty house seasoning. The sweet potato fries are very good as well; however, the sweetness of the sweet potato and the sweetness in the seasoning make it a little too sweet for a fry. Therefore, I would rate the sweet potato fries an 8.3 out of 10.
Hot fudge sundae
The sundae includes vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, and is sprinkled with crushed nuts. This sundae is a good classic sundae with the toppings. I would like a little more toppings on it, but they serve other sundaes with more toppings, or you can create your own. I would rate the hot fudge sundae an 8.4 out of 10.
Overall, the food at Buns and Patties is really good, and I would definitely recommend it. My favorite food item that I had there was the smashburger. Other people agree with having good food as well. I interviewed sophomore Josh Hilliard on his thoughts on the restaurant. He ordered a classic burger with just cheese on it. His first thoughts on the food were that it was “really good” and “definitely a little different from other burger places.” Inside the restaurant, he commented that it is “a little small, but the workers are friendly, and you can tell everyone in there really enjoys the food.” He added that the prices are “a little overpriced, but I think it’s worth it for the food. Overall, he would give it a “solid 8 out of 10.”
