Berkley Figure Skating Team Goes To States

Many sports physically demand a lot out of players. It is one of the many things that all athletes share. However, there is a distinctive sport that brings along with it a unique kind of difficulty, demanding grace and athleticism all while being on the ice. This sport is none other than figure skating, and despite the many challenges within the sport the Berkley Royal Oak Unified Figure Skating Team (BROU) has done more than just succeed—they have excelled. On March 25th, shortly after being announced District 6 Champions, the Berkley Royal Oak Unified Figure Skating Team headed off to compete in the State Championship. Although there was a high amount of competition and dozens of teams to compete against, the BROU rose to the occasion and ended up placing extremely well both individually and as a team. The Berkley High School skaters who shined individually include:
Grace Garska: 7th in Excel Intermediate Free Skate
Maggie Day: 2nd in Pre Bronze Solo Dance & 8th in Excel Intermediate Free Skate
Lily Garska: 3rd (initial round) and 6th (final round) in Excel Intermediate Plus Free Skate
Hannah Wardrobe: 6th in Excel Preliminary Free Skate (initial round)
Rosa Moody: 3rd (initial round) and 6th (final round) in Excel Pre-Preliminary Free Skate
Theresa Solomon: 7th (initial round) in Excel Pre-Preliminary Free Skate and 4th in Preliminary
Solo Dance
Elena Keenan: 9th (initial round) in Excel Pre-Preliminary Free Skate.
The Team successes at the State Championship were not limited to just individuals. Both the B team and the C Team did extraordinary, placing very high during their team events. After competing the B Team placed fifth and the C Team placed second during their time at States.
Overall the entire figure skating team did exceptionally well, and we can’t wait to see the amazing accomplishments they continue to achieve in the near future.
