Every bell is one ring closer to the final moments of this school year. Summer is approaching, and the weeks we have off are peak time for travel. Whether it’s international, national, or even just statewide, many families take it as the time to enjoy themselves in a different location.
“2026 is a year of music,” says junior Adalyn Brzezinski. “There are lots of concerts and festivals, especially in the summer.” From Don Tolliver, Noah Kahan, Ariana Grande, and even music festivals like the 4-day-long fest Lollapalooza, which hosts many artists that perform all day.
Juniors Adalyn Brzezinski and Lexi Gross plan on attending Lollapalooza along with their other friends. The festival takes place in Chicago from July 30th to August 2nd. “We have four-day passes,” says Gross, “But we’re also staying with my siblings who live in the city, so we plan on doing other fun stuff.” Part of music festivals like these is the outfits that everyone wears. “It’s basically a fashion show,” says Brzezinski, “so we’ve spent time preparing our outfits.”
Along with music festivals, lots of students are attending concerts by their favorite artists over the summer. Freshman Sydney Gutman plans on attending Noah Kahan’s concert in Minneapolis on August 5th. Gutman will be attending the concert with her sister and dad and plans on flying to Minnesota the day before. “When Noah announced his tour, my sister and I were really excited because we love his music,” says Gutman.
Not only are students planning on traveling for concerts, but they are also traveling for pleasure. Junior, Kara Schneider, and her family are traveling to Greece over the summer. “We have family there,” states Schneider, “I’m most looking forward to the warm weather and the views”.
Many students go to sleep-away camp over the summer, but sophomore Charlie Heicklen is going to Alaska through a program at Camp Tamarack. Heicklen says, “I’m most excited for hiking in the mountains and being with my friends”. The trip is 7 weeks long, and campers travel to Alaska via bus.
Summer vacation is a great time for families and friends to travel together, which is why it’s so common. Whether it’s a concert, camp, or a beach vacation, the students of Berkley High School have lots of plans that will make their summer the best one yet!
