An Introduction to the New Teachers at BHS

Meet Mr. Guglielmetti, Ms. Horvath, and Mr. Breen
Mr. Breen (Jane Heller)

With a new year comes new teachers to welcome into our Berkley High School community! Not all students will have the opportunity to meet many of these new teachers, so here is a way to get to know some of them.
First is Mr. Guglielmetti who teaches Biology, Astronomy, and Environmental Science. While he is new to Berkley, he has been a teacher for 16 years. “I taught science at a high school in North Carolina. In Michigan, I’ve taught at Orchard Lake Middle School, Oakland Opportunity Academy, and Oak Park Prep Academy”. Mr. Guglielmetti has taught almost every single science class possible. He wanted to be a teacher because he “enjoys the difference and excitement each day brings”. He came to Berkley because he lives in the area and wanted to be a bigger part of the community. Mr. Guglielmetti is an experienced and dedicated science teacher that will make a difference in our school!
Next is Ms. Horvath. This is her third year teaching students in algebra i and algebra support. For the first two years of her career she taught algebra in Nashville, Tennessee. She is originally from Allan Park, Michigan, and she moved back home this year because all of her family is here. She went to Eastern Michigan University for undergraduate, but she got her degree in media and film. Soon after graduation Ms. Horvath changed her mind because she missed school and wanted to teach math. She got her masters degree from Western Governors University online. Ms. Horvath chose Berkley because “it has a great reputation. I remember when I saw the application online I was thinking I will try … it was my top choice”. Ms. Horvath explains that she has always liked math. “I am more of an algebra brain than a geometry brain. I just like math because it is very black and white. There are different ways to find answers, but there is always an answer”. Ms. Horvath is passionate about what she teaches and we are lucky to have her in our community.
Last but not least we have Mr. Breen. Mr. Breen has been teaching for 22 years! He taught at Wayne Westland Middle School for language arts, but he is now teaching AP Computer Science Principles at Berkley. “I’ve taught English language arts for 22 years, and I needed a change. I found a new path, and I enjoy it, and kids enjoy it, so that’s what I want to do”. Mr. Breen grew up in Michigan and went to Michigan State for his undergraduate degree and received his teaching certificate and masters from Wayne State. He chose Berkley because we had a coding position. He explains, “I am very glad I chose it because I am very happy with the dynamics that are in this building, area, and community”. Mr. Breen is a great AP Computer Science teacher who wants his students to succeed. We are fortunate to have him as a teacher.
The Berkley community is excited for our new amazing staff! Welcome!

Jane Heller, Editor in Cheif
Hi! I am Jane Heller, and I am Editor in Chief this year. This is my fourth year on staff. I decided to join writing for publication because I wanted more opportunities to improve my writing. In these past four years I've learned so much in this class. I've learned how to write, work with fellow peers, and lead a class. This class is so special to me and I love to be apart of this community every year.
