Mid-winter break is upon us; it is much-needed time off for staff and students. The break falls between holiday and spring break, providing students with time to pause school work and focus on friends, family, and sleep. With five days off from school, there are many opportunities to fill days with fun and relaxation. Let’s take a look at the different ways the students of Berkley plan on spending their mid-winter break.
Mid-winter break is a common time for families to take vacations. Freshman Natalie Kreiner plans on “going skiing” with her family friends “It’s something we do every year, so I’m always super excited,”. Kreiner is going to Schuss Mountain, claiming “my grandparents own a condo at the resort, so we always stay there”.
Sophomore Lyla Anantharam is going to Universal over the break. She states, “My brother is a senior this year, and he’s going on senior spring break, so it’s our last break together.”. Anantharam will be attending Student Leadership States, an event that consists of “competitions and training”. Many families go out of town for the break, and the days off are a perfect amount of time to enjoy yourself out of town.
Although some students do take the break to go out of town, others are staying home. Junior Logan Fishman is mostly looking forward to “sleeping in and relaxing”. Though he isn’t traveling, he will still be busy. Fishman says “I’m excited to have this time off of school to prioritize my friends and family. Because of the break, he intends to take the time off of school as a chance to relax and “completely disconnect from schoolwork”. To stay active, Fishman aims on “going to the gym” and “playing basketball”.
For Seniors planning on going to college, mid-winter break is a great time to tour schools. Siena Cuda, a Senior at Berkley, plans on touring McKendree University, a private college in Lebanon, Illinois. In addition to touring the campus, Cuda will “meet the rugby team”. Aside from traveling to Illinois, Cuda aims to “have fun with friends” and “go out for lunch on some days”. Although Cuda doesn’t intend to disconnect from all schoolwork, she still wants to take time for herself and “rest and relax” over the break. The upcoming break is a perfect opportunity for students of all grades to tour schools.
This break shows how different students plan on spending their time away from classes. The break looks different for everyone. Whether students are traveling, touring colleges, relaxing at home, or spending time with family and friends, the break gives them a chance to recharge and focus on what matters most to them. Students need to take time off from school to rest, make memories, and return feeling refreshed and ready for what’s ahead.
