Once the bell rings on March 26, students can let go for a week. Spring and its weather is approaching, and as students finish the third quarter, many are looking forward to spring break. From March 27 to April 5, we can disengage from schoolwork, go on vacation, stay home with friends, or just take time to relax on our own. Let’s take a look at how some Berkley students are spending their spring break.
While a break is a great time to relax, it can also be an enriching time to travel to new places! Whether it’s with family, friends, or both, going on a getaway vacation offers great memories and opportunities for exploration. sophomore Allison Shepard is taking advantage of our break to visit Costa Rica with her parents and sister. She is looking forward to the tropical vacation, which will give her a break from the cold Michigan weather. Shepard is most excited to see the wildlife, specifically the monkeys. In addition to Shepard’s getaway, sophomore Ryan Rucinski is utilizing this break to get away on a cruise to Turks and Caicos for a week. He is going with nine of his friends and their families, allowing him to spend quality time with those who are important to him while traveling. These tropical places are the ideal escape for many looking for a break from our classic Michigan winter and to unplug from school.
In addition to spending quality time with family over break, it also gives a great opportunity for you to spend time with your classmates. Senior spring break is a long-lasting tradition for seniors and is a great way to bond with your friends and classmates while still getting the relaxing break that many strive for. This year, the senior class is taking its spring break trip to Punta Cana, which is on the Eastern coast of the Dominican Republic. While there are many great countries to choose from, the Dominican Republic is enticing to choose because of its warm climate and tropical features. The seniors are staying at the Hard Rock hotel, which is an all-inclusive resort. Senior Theresa Solomon states that she “is most looking forward to hanging out with her friends, having a good time, and chilling”. Overall, the Senior spring break trip is something many high schoolers can look forward to as an exciting option for their senior year. But, if you don’t want to go, there are many other fun options for you in your senior year. Senior Emerson Warner is going to Florida with her two best friends. She believes she will have a better time with her two best friends and her mom rather than going on a school-wide trip. Whether you are going on the senior trip or doing your own thing, spring break brings many opportunities for fun and bonding.
Instead of traveling, many Berkley high school students are taking advantage of spring break by staying home and relaxing. This can be one of the best ways to spend your break. It can allow you to catch up on school work, pick up extra shifts at a job, or spend it doing nothing to catch up on some well-needed rest. Junior Cameron Duerr is planning on spending time with his family over break, and for him and many others, this break is a great chance to catch up on some quality family time. Also, Duerr says he is most looking forward to getting back into his baseball routine, allowing him to get a head start on the things that matter to him. Not only can you use breaks to spend time with family and get ahead in sports or school, but also you can also use this time to make memories with your friends. Many Berkley students are busy with school and sports, so this can be a great time to focus on your friendships. Freshman Sofia Carbonell is most looking forward to her free time off from school to relax, and plans on spending her break with her friends.
Everyone’s spring break will look a little bit different, but it remains a point of excitement for all. Students are able to unwind from school and spend their time as they enjoy. Whether you are traveling somewhere warmer, staying home to reset and get ahead on school, sports, or working, spring break is a well-needed time of relaxation for all. While the transition back to school on April 6 will be tough for everyone, it is a break that helps everyone get through our school year. Overall, spring break is a great way to bring us into April and set us up for success with the remaining months.
