As temperatures drop and leaves change color, Berkley students are embracing fall traditions across the community. From the foods, feelings, and sports to the activities, there are many things to love about fall at all ages. With winter around the corner, now is the time to enjoy fall. Many students around Berkley have lived the beginning of their fall to the fullest, so let’s take a look at what they did.
Bringing fall to life with Cider Mills
Going to a cider mill can be one of the best activities you can do in the fall. From the seasonal flavors to the warm donuts, cider mills are a great place to spend time with your friends and family. Some popular cider mills near us include Franklin Cider Mill, Yates Cider Mill, and Blake’s Cider Mill. Freshman Natalie Kreiner says she had a fun time going to a cider mill with friends, and that she enjoys going every year. She stated, “My favorite part about the cider mills are the donuts and activities”. Overall, cider mills can be a great activity to spend your time on this fall, providing the warm and cozy fall feeling we all love.
Local corn mazes draw crowds
Another fun activity in the fall is a corn maze. There are many different types of corn mazes which fit specifically to what you like. For example, there are bigger and harder ones spanning around an hour to escape, shorter and easier ones that could take only a few minutes, or ones in the middle lasting in between thirty and forty five minutes. Sometimes they can even be scary. These can be great places to go if you want to have a fun and interactive experience where you not only have a great time, but also have to use your brain to try to get out. A great corn maze option near us is the Three Cedars Farm corn maze. Sophomore Harley Metz said she went to the Three Cedars corn maze, had a fun time there with her swim team and would enjoy doing more activities in the future. One of her favorite parts was the bonding between her and her teammates with the corn maze bringing them together. For many, corn mazes can be a great escape from stress, and give us the enjoyment of fall and what it brings to us.
Pumpkins, Apples, and memories
Apple orchards and pumpkin patches are also popular weekend destinations during fall. Although they do come with a larger price tag than other activities costing upwards of fifteen dollars, the pumpkins, apples, and memories you take home make it priceless. You get to bring home delicious foods, and you can turn them into more activities later on, like pumpkin carving, making your own flavoured pumpkin seeds, or baking your grandma’s famous apple pie. Freshman Asher Dean fulfilled his fall activity desires when he went not only to a haunted house with friends but also enjoyed his time at an apple orchard with his family. He “enjoyed spending quality time with his friends and family while doing these activities”. While fall may not be everyone’s favorite season, there is at least one activity for everyone to enjoy and bring up their fall spirit.
Football bringing people together
In addition to these outdoor activities, football is also a fall favorite to many. Bringing excitement and competition to people all over, watching football with friends and family is a great way to spend your evenings. Junior Owen Rickard and Freshman Asher Dean stated that it was their favorite part of fall. In addition to just watching football, 60 million people participate in fantasy football every year according to the fantasy sports and gaming association (FSGA), giving an exciting and interactive experience for all. Not only does it bring fun, it also brings friendly humiliation to the loser, sometimes ending with a punishment. Overall, football can be a great bonding point for you and those around you, whether it’s watching, playing, or making your own team on fantasy football.
While fall does come with many fun activities, it is important to remember to give some of your energy to helping others. With Thanksgiving almost here, there are many ways to not only help others but also show your gratitude. Whether it is raking up leaves for your parents or neighbors, or cooking a dish for Thanksgiving, it is easy to spread positivity and thankfulness this fall.
Fall is a great time to get closer to the people around you and grow individually. We have seen some of the exciting ways Berkley students have spent the beginning of their fall. As fall activities wind down, Berkley students are already anticipating winter traditions.
